A Gentle Detangling Routine for Human Hair Wigs

Small tangles are easier to manage before they tighten into knots. A short, regular check can help, but there is no need to race against a five-minute timer or force a brush through resistant hair.

Work upwards from the ends

Place the wig on a stable support or hold it securely without stretching the lace. Separate a small section, support the hair above the tangle and ease the ends apart first. Move gradually upwards as each section becomes free. Pulling straight from the roots transfers force to the knots and cap rather than removing the tangle safely.

Respect the texture

A smooth brush-through is not the right finish for every curl pattern. Use your fingers or an appropriate wide-tooth comb and follow the instructions for the texture. Avoid repeatedly brushing dry curls into a cloud of frizz. If a suitable detangling product is needed, use a small amount and check that it is compatible with processed human hair.

Notice where tangles start

The nape can rub against coat collars and scarves; long ends can catch beneath bag straps. Separate the hair from clothing and check those areas after wearing. Persistent matting can have several causes, including friction, product build-up and the condition of the hair. It is not automatically proof of poor care. Stop if the lace is pulling or a knot will not release, and seek advice before cutting.
