Heat Styling a Human Hair Wig: Start Gently

Human hair can be styled, but that does not mean a wig tolerates unlimited heat. A useful routine aims for the result with as little repeated heat and tension as possible.

Check the instructions before the dial

There is no single temperature that is right for every piece. Colour processing, previous styling and the condition of the ends all matter. Follow the supplier's guidance and start at the lowest effective setting. Do not assume a high setting is safe because the tool offers it.

Prepare and test a discreet section

Use a compatible heat protectant as directed, and do not use a straightener on wet hair. Work on a small section where you can judge the response before continuing. Support the cap so styling does not pull on the lace. If you need repeated passes to force a result, stop and reconsider the method rather than automatically increasing the heat.

Choose the texture you want to wear

A wave or curl pattern you enjoy in its usual state can reduce the urge to restyle the whole wig every morning. Heat-free arrangements may also help, provided they do not stretch the hair or base. Let tools cool safely away from the piece and store the wig only once it is dry. If the hair feels brittle, seek advice before further styling.
