How to Clean an HD Lace Wig Without Pulling the Lace
Share
Fine lace deserves a light touch. Cleaning an HD lace wig is less about intensive scrubbing and more about using a method that suits the hair, the base and any adhesive on it.
Identify the residue first
Hair styling product and wig adhesive are not necessarily removed in the same way. Read the instructions for the product used, and check that any remover is compatible with your piece. Do not assume warm water will dissolve every glue. Allow the recommended removal process to work rather than trying to peel away stubborn residue with your fingernails.
Support the base during cleaning
Handle the wig by supported areas and avoid stretching wet lace. Detangle the lengths gently before washing when the care instructions allow. Wash without twisting or rubbing the hairs together, and rinse carefully. Apply conditioner only as directed; coating the knots or fastening areas can create a different problem from dry ends.
Finish before adding more product
Blot gently and allow the cap to dry fully. Inspect it in good light before reinstalling. A snag or thinning patch will not be repaired by mousse or oil. If you see damage, stop and ask whether a repair is possible. Introduce styling products sparingly so you can judge what the hair actually needs rather than repeatedly covering residue.
