How to Store a Lace Wig Between Wears

Putting a wig away carefully is part of looking after it. A piece pushed into a crowded drawer can develop tangles or lose its shape even when the washing routine is otherwise gentle.

Start with a dry cap

Before storage, check the inside as well as the ends. A cap can remain damp after the surface hair appears dry. Let the whole piece dry in a suitable, ventilated place away from direct heat. Avoid sealing damp hair in plastic or putting it into a suitcase immediately after washing.

Support without stretching

A suitable wig stand can help a regularly worn piece keep its shape. Choose a support that does not stretch the cap, and do not pin through delicate lace unnecessarily. Detangle gently before setting the wig down. Keep long lengths from dragging on the floor or catching on jewellery and other accessories.

Prepare for a longer break

For storage over several weeks, protect the clean, dry piece from dust, crushing and direct sunlight. Arrange the lengths loosely rather than folding the lace into a sharp crease. Keep clips and accessories separate so they do not snag the base. When you take the wig out again, inspect the cap and work through the ends before styling; do not assume it is ready simply because it was clean when packed.
